{image1} Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Milwaukee is on the lookout for mentors to take one of 1,125 waiting children under their wing. This is the highest number of kids minus mentors the agency's seen in its 30-year history.

"We are alarmed by the number of children who have asked for our help and are waiting for mentors," says India McCanse, BBBS President and CEO. Volunteer efforts from women are important, but BBBS is more seriously looking for male mentors, McCanse adds.

Studies show that children with a grown-up buddy to look up to are less likely to skip school, more likely to say no to drugs and alcohol and able to create and sustain better relationships with family and peers.

And just a few hours a week with your new little bro or sis will make a huge difference to them.

"We have a community rich with dedicated volunteers and I know they will come through for these children," McCanse says.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Milwaukee offers several mentoring options with varying time commitments and scheduling options. Adults interesting in mentoring can contact the BBBS

main office at (414) 258-4778 ext. 232, or visit bbbsmilwaukee.org for more information.
